Linda Arkelian every year gives dance master classes at the Simon Fraser University downtown campus. She invites artists to video, sketch or photograph the two-hour class. I was invited last year and again this year.
Because these invitations are not magazine assignments of yore I can do as I please. So I shoot in my latest technique of using a slow shutter with my digital camera. I call the results swirls.
Part of the fun is that these swirls are hit and miss. The “making” of one of them involves working with my 19-year-old Photoshop 8 where I vary and control the contrast and the colour.
While I may be about to celebrate my 82nd birthday I am thankful to Linda Arkelian for providing me with the opportunity to not shoot in a conventional manner. But then her classes are certainly not conventional at all.
