Evelyn Hart circa 2000 |
These days in my isolation shared with my two cats Niño and Niña I miss my Rosemary. I miss the woman that Rosemary was. I tell people the only woman I am now interested in is dead.
I have been reflecting a lot about the women I met and photographed in my past.
Dance has been a big photographic interest of mine. I have a lovely photograph of Evelyn Hart taken in her dressing room at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
Evelyn Hart - Dec 1995 |
Perhaps sometime around the year 2000 I photographed her at her hotel room at the Mandarin. After the session I invited her for drinks at the bar and we had Primos Hermanos (First Cousins). This was a drink concocted by Sir William Gilbey because when I photographed him at the Mandarin he told me that he was related by marriage to the González Byass family. The drink was a gin Martini in which the vermouth was substituted by Tío Pepe.
When I saw the results of my tight portraits of Hart I was shocked. Now with the time that has passed I see in them a loveliness I missed then.
