Rosa 'Crazy Love' scanned 25 May 2024 |
I wrote about this beautiful new rose in link below. I have scanned it again today in the evening of May 25 but I am placing this blog back (to fill some holes) to 21 May.
It is obvious to me that this badly (strangely? ) named rose is a keeper in my garden.
I must confess that I am being driven crazy by the beauty of my rose garden this week. I am not going to worry that just because I am opening the garden to the Vancouver Rose society in a couple of weeks that there might not be as many open blooms right now. The garden visit will give me that rare chance of talking to people face to face.
I look at Crazy Love and I have to think of my Rosemary who for many years hated orange and any flowers of that colour. When Brad Jalbert of Select Roses recommended and sold me Rosa ‘Westerland’ which is very orange, Rosemary warmed to the colour. This rose became a cover for Canadian Gardening and it certainly was the first ever magazine cover that featured a scanned rose.
I could interpret the name of this orange rose as connecting with the fact that I met Rosemary mid December 1967 in Mexico City and we were married on February 8 of 1968. I may have shown crazy love but Rosemary was always very centered, and practical, so her love for me was studied and I was then picked with serious certainty by her.
She may have lost some of that intellectual acumen when she began to like the colour orange.
