Many complain about the fact that newspaper links cannot be inserted into Facebook. I have discovered that there is a way.
For close to 20 years my Rosemary and I were subscribed (now I am the only one with Rosemary gone) to a hard copy version of the NYTimes that is delivered every day at the door. Strangely (but wonderful!) the Sunday edition crashes on my front door at 9:30 on Saturday night.
My subscription gives me access to the on-line version and it also gives me the ability to gift 10 paywall links. These links once I have them copied I can send to as many people as I want.
If I insert the link into a blog as I will do here, those
who may go beyond placing an emoji will be rewarded in reading one of the most
glowing articles I have ever read on a new novel translation.
I will state here that for reasons that escape me I have never read the novel but I did see the 1966 film with John Gavin and which has the cinematography of one of the best of the 20th Century, Gabriel Figueroa.
After reading this I will see if Don Stewart at Macleod’s books might have it in Spanish. If not I will have to order it at Abebooks.
I have anti-woke friends who tell me that all newspapers and other media are sh… They tell me they ignore them all. There is no way that I can tell them that there are a few columnists in the NYTimes I can trust and that many of the essays are fairly objective.
This review of the new translation is nicely not objective. The reviewer cannot hide how much she loves this novel.
Amazingly the complete film can be seen om Youtube.
