A Christmas Three in the Past

Plays and and dance that I have seen in the past exist in my
memory and in my files. I wonder how good our city’s memory is for good stuff
that happened.
A Christmas 3 was a project that included three plays that featured three one act
plays with one different actor in each. They were themed for Christmas. They
were experimental and certainly not your usual Christmas chestnuts (one more
Nutcracker, ugh!).
From social media I find myself overwhelmed for invites for
local events. One of the most bothersome feature three or four Facebook friends
(that you might not know) with the message “These friends are going to an event
near you.”
My anger quickly dissipates as I realize that social media
is taking over simply because our normal print and even on-line media is fading
away. In fact now the Westender is about to die and one of the few things I
used to read in the Vancouver Courier Kudos and Kvetches has lost its zing and
frequency.
On a Thursday my Vancouver Sun’s film section with places
and times did not inform me that on that very day The Shape of Water was on.
Standard media is failing and my guess is that with travel
agencies the next item from the past that is quickly disappearing is the
position of publicist.
Even 25 years ago I used to see Vancouver Magazine Editor
Malcolm Parry dump press releases unopened.
Meanwhile all those wonderful actors, directors and
playwrights may be as endangered as the publicists.
