Those Exciting Georgia Straight Halloween Covers of Halloweens Past
Sunday, October 30, 2016
Many people might not know that I have worked doing stuff
for the Georgia Straight for something like 30 years. Now I get one job a year and that is the FallArts Preview. At one time I would shoot at least 20 covers per year.
I always looked forward to a phone call from Steve Newton
from the Straight in mid-October. This was the assignment that I loved to do.
It involved a Halloween cover and inside shots. I remember shooting Brad McDonald with
a tarantula as my first colour Halloween cover. It is here. It was spooky as I
do not like spiders, and particularly large live tarantulas.
The Halloween covers soon faded as the publication drifted
into uniformity. At one time they and the Vancouver Sun competed for having
original photography. That sadly is no more.
