Anemone? - 30 April 2024

 Dainty in Spanish is delicado, Rosemary was delicada,

When you live with someone for 52 years, as I did with Rosemary, you might think I knew everything I could possibly know about her. That was not the case.

In a long marriage it would also spell the end of that intimacy you have when you first meet someone. it took  2 months after I met her for us to get married. I have spent over 80% of my life with Rosemary..

Routinely, both Rosemary and I would walk around the house stark naked. And, yet, watching her sitting on the floor (she never sat in front of mirror) to apply her makeup was a lovely sight and an almost turn on.

We both routinely took tub baths with the bathroom door open. And I must confess that many times both of us were in the tub. There was something spectacular in seeing her face and eyes on her side of the tub.

It took me almost 50 years to realize that her interest in art was large but she kept it mostly to herself. One way she exercised this was giving me carte blanche with all my gallery shows even as she would tell me I was spending a lot of money in matting and framing.

For 52 years (close to her eventual death) we indulged in pleasant and gentle sex. She would never reject me or say no. She was willing even though she rarely made too many overtures.

One of the most pleasant and intimate moments in our life happened when I realized that while as a little boy I was never allowed to play with dolls, my Rosemary was just that. We would go to shoe stores and most of the time I was the one who chose her shoes. I loved going with her to buy dresses.

And she had this predilection of going to the Hudson’s Bay to buy sheets and pillowcases. When she would point out some she liked and looked at me I was aware that it was as close as Rosemary ever got to giving me a come hither look.

Ultimately what endeared me to Rosemary was her smallness, her daintiness and her grace of movement.

Today as I was walking in the garden, I spotted this little white flower hiding under bigger plants. I have not been able to identify it as there was no metal plant sign near it.

Looking at the small (not as big as a dollar coin) delicate white flower was like somehow spying on Rosemary putting on underwear or getting into our bed in her white nightie.

I am not sure that the flower is an anemone. But I scanned it and called it Anemone Rosemary.

Even after her death on 9 December, 2020 my Rosemary has this penchant of revealing something about her that I didn’t know.
