It is perhaps coincidental but in the last few weeks I have been reading Virginia Woolf, Sylvia Plath and two Argentine poets Alfonsina Storni and Alejandra Pizarnik. In the middle of the night it came to me that these four women had committed suicide. Alfonsina Storni and Virginia Woolf drowned, Pizarnik used barbiturates and Plath put her head in a gas oven.
When I am depressed I tend to read depressing stuff with the
perhaps misguided idea that one fights depression by hitting rock bottom.
Today I looked at all these purple/red/violet roses and tried to find a connection with one of those four women.
I did!
It seems that Virginia Woolf loved to write with purple ink.
So there!
