A Hot Bath

“There must be quite a few things a hot bath won't cure,
but I don't know many of them. Whenever I'm sad I'm going to die, or so nervous
I can't sleep, or in love with somebody I won't be seeing for a week, I slump
down just so far and then I say: "I'll go take a hot bath.”
Sylvia Plath - The Bell Jar
Since I can remember a tub has always been one of the
pleasures in my life. In my Buenos Aires we call them bañaderas. When we moved
to Mexico there they were called tina de baño.
Until a few years ago I must confess that frequently my
Rosemary and I would share the tub. I am trying to find the nerve to propose
that we bring back that nice custom.
This Christmas in Kitsilano, Hilary (The Stewarts they are)
gave me this splendid device that will enable me to read while bathing. I
regularly do this and I must confess that I have paid a few dollars to the
Vancouver Public Library for accidental book immersions.
Such accidents will be a thing of the past and I even predict
that my NY Times or novel will share space with a mug of strong tea.
Thank you Hilary!
