A Birthday Gift From my Librarian Friend in Buenos Aires
Thursday, August 29, 2019
A surprise came in the mail on Thursday just in time
for my birthday which is on August 31.. It was a largish envelope from Buenos Aires from my
friend Roberto Baschetti who works at the Biblioteca Nacional Mariano Moreno
(the Argentine National Library). He is in charge of inspecting the great piles
of books that are donated to the library.
An old photograph fell out from a book by author and naturalist
Guillermo Enrique Hudson. He was a Quilmes, Provincia de Buenos Aires author (4
August 1841 – 18 August 1922) known in England, where he died as William Henry
Hudson.
The photograph had no stamp of any identification on the
back. The book came from a pile donated by an Anglo Argentine man called
Willoughby Blew who had recently moved to Florida.
Because Baschetti knows of my liking for photographs of
undraped women he thought of me and my birthday. Thank you so much Roberto.
