Eryngium giganteum 'Miss Willmott's Ghost' & Eryngium x zabelli 'Big Blue' 26 August 2024 |
Eryngium giganteum 'Miss Willmott's Ghost' 24 October 2007 |
It is impossible for me to go to my garden and not remember which plants were Rosemary’s favourites.
One plant is framed in my guest bathroom. It says it is one of three. I have no idea where the other two might be. The method I used to reproduce Eryngium giganteum ‘Miss Willmott’s Ghost’ I did for only a few months in the year 2000. I would place the plants in my darkroom negative enlarger where I would normally put a negative. Somehow the resulting print, which is technically not a photogram, would have elements of positive and negative. Now without a darkroom I can no longer do this process so I rely on my plant scanning.
‘Miss Willmott’s Ghost’ was named after an English plants woman with that name who would surreptitiously plant seeds of the eryngium in the gardens she visited. I am not sure this story is entirely correct as this plant is not an easy one to cultivate. Ours in the front garden of our Kerrisdale home was almost 6ft tall and it was glorious.
I decided today to scan the framed print in conjunction with Eryngium x zabelli ‘Big Blue’ which was blue a few weeks ago. It will do in my continuing blogs in remembrance of my Rosemary.
