Nora Patrich & M - Bella Vista - Provincia de Buenos Aires - 18 March 2017 |
On 10/01/17 – 17:48 I received a curiously strange email through my web page.
name: M
email:

Hola Alex! Soy de Buenos Aires también y tus fotos son maravillosas.
Llegué a
This led to my answering her and in short order I asked her to pose for Nora Patrich and me for my then forthcoming trip to Buenos Aires in mid March.
I was direct from the beginning and asked her if she
would pose for us undraped. We compared notes and her enthusiastic “yes” warmed
my soul.
In the morning of March 18th she showed up
with her mother whom she brought to check me out. It seems that I passed the
test and my nephew Georgito drove us all to Bella Vista which is where Nora
Patrich has her studio. After dropping us off, Georgito took Lauren, 14 to his
son’s home in Tigre to spend the weekend with his granddaughters.
The project with M was to incorporate the idea of
some of Julio Cortázar’s strange poetry and short stories. But initially we did
the slow entry into that swimming pool of ice cold water. M posed for
Patrich fully clothed and then little by little it was all gone. I recorded
this with my Fuji X-E1. I was a tad flummoxed by the fact that I had none of my
usual lights so I used window light and a reflector to bounce some light back.
M was a delight to pose, photograph. Perhaps in a
near future (Patrich is coming to Vancouver mid April) Patrich and I can
collaborate in our special way. She picks parts of some of my photographs which
I print. She pastes these and paints or draws around them.
The bonus was the appearance of a Juan Manuel SánchezArgentine version of Leonardo’s Mona Lisa.
M’s mother, J, suggested that her
daughter bring along a blue silk gown which Patrich and I thought was a
laudable idea that worked well with what we did.
