Fun Christmases

A D.O.A.  Christmas - 1984

1980 was the real beginning of my career as a magazine photographer. I had shot quite a few photographs the three previous years. But in1980 a couple of things happened (one followed the other). For one, famous animator/illustrator/artist Marv Newland (Bambi Meets Godzilla) finally acknowledged my existence and congratulated for my photograph in Les Wiseman’s In One Ear column (monthly in Vancouver Magazine) that featured the Subhumans. We did four more Christmas themed columns. My fave was D.O.A.’s. The reason is that Wiseman informed me that if I kept the Christmas stuff in the picture to a minimum the photograph could be used for an upcoming D.O.A. album called Let’s Wreck the Party.

For five years we did the Christmas column and it seemed that only our imagination was the limit to what we could do.

And of course in 2016 Vancouver that is all gone.
