| Verbena bonariensis - October 24 2016 |
Every once in a while my Rosemary aims to please me. With
the annual that seeds itself to become a perennial, Verbena bonariensis, it goes both ways as she loves the way this
6ft tall plant with its nice little blue/purple flowers (in my present scan the
flowers are disappearing to form the seed pods) will grow among other plants
freely without interfering. This verbena is especially handsome growing among
roses.
And of course while I do not remember the plant growing in
my Argentine Pampa I can imagine it and when I see it in our garden it takes me
back to country of birth.
Emily Dickinson’s often quote about the frigate from her
poem:
There is no Frigate like a Book
To take us Lands away,
Nor any Coursers like a Page
Of prancing Poetry –
This Traverse may the poorest take
Without oppress of Toll –
How frugal is the Chariot
That bears a Human soul.
Can certainly equally apply to plants in a garden
