Doña Petrona

Petrona Carrizo de Gandulfo or Doña Petrona as she was affectionally called by her many fans, was Argentina’s foremost cook. She was born in the province of Santiago del Estero in 1896 and she died in 1992.

While staying at Nora Patrich and Roberto Baschetti’s home in the Buenos Aires outskirts of Bella Vista I heard some noises in the middle of the night. I got up to see where the noises were coming from when I was confronted by this apparition who no doubt must be the ghost of Doña Petrona. Nora Patrich is a wonderful cook and my only explanation is that somewhere in her house she must have hidden a dog-eared copy of El Libro de Doña Petrona.
