Gertrude Jekyll Rhymes With Treacle

Rosa 'A Shropshire Lad' left & Rosa 'Gertrude Jekyll'

In this fabulous scanning season I am at odds as to what roses to scan and to then write a blog. Today I decided on Rosa ‘Gertrude Jekyll’ that is happily blooming in my laneway garden. I noticed that the other English Rose, Rosa ‘A Shropshire Lad’ (I often forget that important A) was in bloom. Since I have changed my idea of accurately scanning a rose as a specimen, I now enjoy combining them.

I have pointed out before that A Shropshire Lad has nice new leaves that are reddish.

My specimen is huge, and yet, using the excuse of global warming, David Austin Roses had discontinued this rose. They use the expression delist.

Here is one of my previous blogs (and a couple more) on Rosa ‘Gertrude Jekyll’ that contains a biography on who she was.
